"Mass-individualisation" and the long tail?

ErikLog: EADTU conference on "mass-individualisation"

Erik notes that only 7% of the products that are introduced to a supermarket shelf survive their initial introduction period. Certainly a lot would fall by the wayside if educators introduced as many new products as food companies tend to do.

But this speaks to the earlier note I posted on the "long tail." I have had many occasions to pick up a new product and enjoy it only to discover it was not among the 7% that were kept on the shelf. That is the beauty of the 'net is that niche products have a much better chance to survive because they can reach a mass audience. Even strange educational products might find a meaningful audience over time.

Check out the 4-point presentation too. Even without Erik's narration, I learned quite a bit.
