Sage on the stage...

Creating Passionate Users: Be Provocative

I really enjoy Kathy Sierra's Blog and this post is an excellent visual of something I tell trainers and presenters all the time: "Every presentation is interesting when you are the presenter!"

But, when training or speaking, if you take a moment here and there to put yourself in those seats "out there" it can be a bit scary. I think most of us block it out when we are presenting because we are afraid to consider that our audience might not be quite as interested as we think (especially since getting up in front of a room of strangers is daunting to begin with). Unfortunately, being good at some of the things Kathy recommends is difficult and takes work. I hear many speakers attempt to be controversial for the sake of controversy and I tune them out faster than if they were presenting a list of educational statistics. The key to any of these tips is to know your audience.
