SFSU Instructional Tech: Thank You

SFSU School of Education

A big THANK YOU! to the students and alumni in the Instructional Technology department at SFSU on Monday night for having me as a guest lecturer. My friend and colleague Brian Beatty was kind enough to invite me to come speak on Emerging Learning Technology and ISD in the Real World. I enjoyed both sessions immensely because everyone was active, engaged, and thoughtful. Having attended classes at night for all of my master's degree at UNCC and quite a few doctoral classes at IU, I know that it can be tough to be energized around seven or eight o'clock but this group had a ton of energy!
I promised some links to additional resources... From the first talk on instructional design:

What and How do Designers Design? A Theory of Design Structure (Link to a Word Doc) Andrew Gibbons Tech Trends Article

From the second talk on emerging learning technology:
A "secret" source of news stories on many educational technology trends is the AADL newsletter:

Gaming in education as a key trend seemed to draw a lot of attention during the discussion. Here are some resources:
Serious Games Source (includes summaries and articles from the SGS conference)
Joystick101.org is run by some colleagues and has stories on a number of gaming topics (not all educational)
Amazon link to the book I showed in class:
How Computer Games Help Children Learn
Another article:
Video Games and the Future of Learning
